What Makes New York a Hit with trend (Fashion ) Fans? 2011

What Makes New York a Hit with Fashion Fans?
by Shannon Holland

New York is world renowned as a fashionable destination. As would be expected in one of the planet's fashion capitals, a significant proportion of the economy is driven by the clothing industry and the city is the location of preference for celebrated designers, including Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs and Michael Korrs.

However, it is predominantly the offshoots of this creative industry that make this city so 'fashionable.' They have spawned a massive cultural and media scene that attracts visitors from around the world. For mainstream culture, New York offers a wealth of possibilities. Tourists can visit MOMA to marvel at just some of the 28,000 pieces of artwork on display, or perhaps head over to Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic Guggenheim building to catch the current top art billing: 'Kandinsky at the Bauhaus.'

A Broadway Musical is generally at the top of a tourist's itinerary and even for genre enthusiasts there will be something worth watching. Choose a classic such as Mama Mia, or try out the newcomer 'Young Frankenstein.' To complete a perfect evening, be sure to dine in a fashionable New York eatery. Otto Enoteca Pizzeria, housed in the historic 'One Fifth Avenue' building will definitely give an authentic ambience. For lovers of classical music or Opera, The Carnegie Hall or Met will provide an unforgettable experience.

However, New York only really owns its fashion status due to the presence of a diverse sub-culture. It is when you venture 'behind the scenes,' so to speak, that you truly find the fashion credentials of a city. Move beyond the regular tourist art haunts and visit places such as the Morgan Library and Museum at 225 Madison Avenue. Here you will find a veritable feast of Degas sketches, rarely viewed by the public. Spend the evening at an 'Off-Broadway' show, easier on the pocket and stimulatingly different in content. For light entertainment why not watch 'Blind Date' at the Ars Nova Building, (though be warned, dates are selected from the Audience!) For something a little more hard-hitting, the current run of 'Black Angels over Tuskegee, (St Luke's Theatre), is getting rave reviews.

A city that is able to harbour a sub-culture, that is as large and dramatic as its mainstream offerings, is truly a fashionable destination.

In getting of Your Christmas clothes complete

IMG_4749AImage by Thai Handicrafts via FlickrPlanning the Christmas wardrobe should be just that. Make sure you don't just go out and buy random items one at a time; you should plan your wardrobe. Over the festive period you'll be attending parties and meals as well as wearing more layers, so you'll need items that can be worn with more than just one other garment and items that complement each other.

Remember that you're going to need different types of clothes. The first will be dressing for the freezing temperatures you'll have to face in that morning commute and the dark early evenings. A coat is a good place to start as it'll cover most of you up as well as keep you warm, so it's one of the most important things to get right.

Gloves, a scarf and maybe even a hat are next. While style is important there's no point buying any fancy party outfits if you don't keep yourself well and warm. The most unprotected areas of your body over the Christmas period will be well protected by gloves, scarf and hat.

It's time for the enjoyable part now that you're staying warm and healthy. All those get togethers you've been invited to by friends and family, you'll need something to wear to them. Chances are you'll be able to wear some of the outfits you buy for these for the rest of the year anyway as they'll more than likely be indoor events so don't be afraid to spend a bit more.

You'll be looking your best if you plan your Christmas wardrobe well, and you'll stay nice and warm too. If you plan your wardrobe you'll be able to wear the items you choose with items you already have and for the rest of the year too.
You won't be going anywhere if you catch a terrible cold this Christmas, so be sure to wrap up warm. While you want to look good, you won't be going anywhere if you catch a terrible Christmas cold!

Designer Swimwear is a popular line for many high fashion designers

"Whatever reason or purpose you have for going in the water there is swimwear that you can feel good in and that will suit your needs, including mastectomy swimwear. Regardless of your size, your age or your activity there will be a swimsuit that provides the comfort and coverage you need." Today there is an excellent variety and wide range of options in specialty swimwear designs. Designs include mastectomy swimwear, maternity swimwear, water aerobic accessories, thermal and sun protective swimwear, wetsuits, sports swimwear, plus sized swimwear, high fashion swimwear and of course the large variety of women’s and men’s swimwear.

Mastectomy swimwear is special swimwear needed for women who have had a breast removed. The swimwear includes a special pocket sewn in to hold the breast prosthesis in place during even the most vigorous of activities. The swimsuits come in a wide variety of designs to include either low or high necklines, wide or thin straps and skirted or saronged styles so your options certainly aren’t limited. A major concern among some women is that the breast forms may be affected by exposure to chlorine from swimming or heats from sunbathing, manufacturers agree this isn’t true. Another concern is that the weight of the prosthesis may be too heavy for a swimsuit. The bathing suits manufactured today are specifically made with the strongest stitching and proper fabrics to ensure not only comfort but also piece of mind.

The maternity swimwear designed today has never been more practical or fashionable. Maternity swimsuits come in both two- piece and one-piece suits. The swimsuits are made with extra lining in the places that need it; most designs have built in soft-cup bras. Tankini designs come in slightly larger belly covering lengths and swimdress suits are available for more coverage. The selections of cover -ups come in both skirt and hooded designs, the skirts are often double lined with elastic waistbands. There are so many great manufacturers offering an endless array of designs and various soft stretchy fabrics that you’re ensured a comfy fit during any stage of pregnancy. There are also wonderful nursing bathing suits on the market, which offer proper post pregnancy belly cover-up with built in bras for use when nursing baby.

Water aerobics is a great all around form of aerobic exercise and an excellent form of cardio fitness. Water aerobics are safe for all ages, as the water causes your body to be buoyant, thus causing less strain and stress on your joints and muscles. Some of the special aerobic water accessories are wrist and ankle weights, active belts, aqua mats, exercise balls, aqua steps, water shoes and barbells. Many of the accessories are covered in neoprene fabric offering comfort to the wearer and chlorine resistance. The active belt is used to promote correct posture while supporting the lower back and toning abdominal muscles. The wrist and ankle weights are used for resistance to get the maximum workout, the cuffs come in various weights for different levels of fitness. It’s a good idea to purchase one of the many sports swimsuits available when doing water aerobics so you’re ensured a swimsuit that will stand up to your exercise routine.

Thermal wear and sun protective swimwear are two popular ways to provide your children with either warmth or protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Thermal wear suits are made from a specially treated, heat reflective neoprene material. The thermal swimsuits allow children to maintain their warmth safely while still allowing for the freedom of movement necessary. The sun protective swimwear manufactured today usually has an SPF of 50 (the highest rating for fabric) and most brands offer approximately a 98% sun block. The suits are made of a nylon-lycra mix, which is lightweight and fast drying. The sunsuits come in a variety of designs to include; baby, children and adult designs; sun hats and sunsuits combined with buoyancy aids. What an excellent way to protect both you’re children and yourself from the sun.

Water Sports swimwear is quite different than the standard swimsuits available for swimming and sunbathing. Water sports such as wakeboarding, wind surfing, surfing, water skiing, diving and jet skiing often require swimwear that offers both warmth and protection from extended time in cold waters. Most wetsuits are made from a specially treated heat reflective neoprene material, which helps people maintain their warmth while providing flexibility and comfort. Wetsuits are available in a wide variety of designs such as; one piece body suits with either long or short sleeves; rash and UV guards (similar to a long or short sleeved t-shirt) with hoods; gloves and boots; wetsuits with hoods. The innovative wetsuits are amazingly flexible and durable providing years of water fun.

Popular manufacturers of sportswear make excellent quality sports swimwear. These swimsuits like the standard swimsuits come in a wide variety of designs, but are specifically made to endure endless hours of activity in the pool, the suits must provide proper fit and comfort in a long lasting design often used by lifeguards and competitors. As much as the look of the swimsuit is important it is secondary to the fit and durability. Sports swimwear can include; competition swimwear, accessories, training suits, lifeguard suits and practice suits. The swimwear is also includes options such as swim caps, warm-ups, parkas and towels.

Proper fit of your swimsuit is essential whether you’re petite, tall or plus sized. You want to be sure that your swimsuit is neither too small nor too large ensuring the swimsuit provides comfort, flexibility and durability. Plus sized swimsuits come in an excellent variety of designs to include one and two pieces suits from tankini suits to skirted suits. Regardless of your size there is a suit that will fit you properly, with swimsuits made in special bra cup sizes while offering extra lining to provide full coverage.

Designer Swimwear is a popular line for many high fashion designers. There is no shortage on the extraordinary styles and options out there. If you are in the market for a swimsuit with that “extra something” you can find swimsuits with lovely hand sewn water drops, crystals and beads. There are swimsuits that with special technology allow you to tan through the suit, there are bust enhancing suits and tummy control suits; there really is no limit to what you can find.

With all the specialty suits mentioned we can’t forget the variety of regular women and men’s suits available. There are styles, colors and fabric designs to fit anyone’s tastes. Swimsuits in one and two- piece varieties for women and the classic swim trunks, shorts and racers for men.

Whatever reason or purpose you have for going in the water there is swimwear that will suit your needs. Regardless of your size, your age or your activity there will be a swimsuit that provides the comfort and coverage you need. If you are planning to be out in the sun always remember to apply proper sunscreen, SPF 30 is a good idea, you also don’t want to forget your sun hats, sunglasses and beach towels.

French fashion king Yves Saint Laurent has died at the age of 71

1958 January 30 - unknown photographer, Paul P...Image by blacque_jacques via FlickrPARIS (Reuters) - French fashion king Yves Saint Laurent has died at the age of 71, hailed as a 20th century cultural icon who revolutionized the way women dressed.

The reclusive Saint Laurent's couture creations won global fine art status and he was widely considered to be one of an elite club of designers including Christian Dior and Coco Chanel who made Paris the fashion capital of the world.

From Princess Grace of Monaco to the actress Catherine Deneuve, Saint Laurent's creations adorned many famous women but he was also the first designer to make luxury labels accessible to a wider audience through innovative read-to-wear collections.

He exploded on to the world stage at just 21 and built up a clothes, perfumes and accessories empire that resulted in a 1989 stock market flotation -- the first by a fashion house.

Yves Saint Laurent was born in Oran, then in French Algeria ; left for Paris after secondary school to pursue a fashion career; and at 17 was hired as couturier Christian Dior's assistant. When Dior died four years later, he was named head of the House of Dior. In 1961, Saint Laurent opened his own fashion house and quickly emerged as one of the world's most influential and spectacular designers.

Although Dior recognized his talent immediately, Saint Laurent spent his first year at the House of Dior on mundane tasks, such as decorating the studio and designing accessories. Eventually, however, he was allowed to submit sketches for the couture collection; with every passing season, more of his sketches were accepted by Dior. In August 1957, Dior met with Saint Laurent's mother to tell her that he had chosen Saint Laurent to succeed him as designer. His mother later said that she had been confused by the remark, as Dior was only 52 years old at the time. Both she and her son were surprised when in October of that year Dior died at a health spa in northern Italy of a massive heart attack.

The subsequent auction, November 17–20, included 1,185 items from the couple's Normandy villa, was not as impressive as the first auction, and featured the designer's last Mercedes-Benz automobile and his Hermès luggage.

Russell Brand posted this tribute on his website today…

Russell Brand photoBritish actor Russell Brand accepts his award for Comedy Star of the Year during CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners, at Caesars Palace March 31, 2011.

Russell Brand has posted a tribute to Amy Winehouse on his website, calling her a "genius".

Brand revealed that he had met Winehouse on various occasions in Camden, but his lack of musical knowledge meant he was "baffled" when the jazz singer received mainstream attention. However, he then saw her live and changed his mind.

Roughly 30 minutes into his single performance Friday night at Mandalay Bay Theater, Russell Brand deviated from his script. Or did he, really? Was there a script at all?

Brand improvises frequently and whimsically, but the quick, innuendo-laden response to the cries of a few female fans may well have been written before the show and swiftly memorized by Brand.

(LOS ANGELES, CA) -- Singer Katy Perry and comic actor Russell Brand have bought a Sunset Strip-area compound from former National Lampoon Chief Executive Daniel Laikin for $6.5 million, the Multiple Listing Service shows. Perry and Brand are in the process of selling their Los Feliz compound, a $3,395,000 listing that was on the market in May for just nine days before entering escrow.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry have been subjected to headlines about their supposed trouble in paradise recently ... heck, since the day they got married.

But in the wake of the most recent groundswell of speculation - Russell reportedly cavorting with brunettes not named Katy - the couple is fighting back.

"Just cause we don't flaunt our relationship doesn't mean there's something wrong," Katy wrote. "Privacy is our luxury. #tabloidsrtrash #gossipisgross"

Russell echoed his wife's sentiments and cheered her Tweets.

When you love someone who suffers from the disease of addiction you await the phone call. There will be a phone call. The sincere hope is that the call will be from the addict themselves, telling you they’ve had enough, that they’re ready to stop, ready to try something new. Of course though, you fear the other call, the sad nocturnal chime from a friend or relative telling you it’s too late, she’s gone.

Frustratingly it’s not a call you can ever make it must be received. It is impossible to intervene.

If you’ve caught Russell Brand’s stand-up on this side of the pond, you know the “I’m more famous in England” disclaimer that he applies to most American crowds is really buildup for explaining his odd hairstyle. But, perhaps because he had so many hats and wigs to don during his night as the host of Saturday Night Live this week, Brand’s signature ratted do was down during his monologue. The joke substituted tight trousers (which actually weren’t all that tight).
